The Uniquely Powerful You – #2

“You should 'just be yourself' not because it will make you more likable (it won’t) but because it’s only by being yourself that you’ll find people who like you for who you really are rather than for someone you’re pretending to be.” — Gurwinder Bhogal

Embrace Your Uniqueness

In a world that often encourages conformity, it's crucial to remember that each of us is unique, with our own set of talents and experiences. Instead of trying to fit into someone else's mold, embrace what makes you different or what has made you successful.

Fully embracing what makes you unique will inevitably make you more interesting to others. I'd much rather learn something new about a person who is enthusiastic about the topic than someone who is halfheartedly telling me what I want to hear just to fit in. Eventually, the real you will shine through. Might as well lead with that version.

You Can Only Be Second Best at Being Someone Else

"The absolute best you can hope for if you’re playing a role is to be the 2nd best in the world at being someone else." – Chris Williamson

I find myself frequently reflecting on this quote.

Trying to emulate someone else only leads to a watered-down version of yourself and them. Instead, strive to be the best possible version of you. Embrace your strengths, acknowledge your weaknesses, and own your individuality.

In our world, bending processes or not being consistent in your approach will inevitably leave you exposed. Learn from others' mistakes to avoid them for yourself, but ensure you are performing whatever task in your own manner or speaking in your own voice.

Don’t bend your processes or standards to fit in.

Celebrate Your Journey

Each of us is on our own journey, navigating life's twists and turns in our unique way. Your path may not look like anyone else's, and that's perfectly expected. Celebrate your victories, learn from your setbacks, and cherish every moment of your journey. Remember, it's the sum of our experiences that makes us who we are.

Additionally, we are all at different stages of our lives, careers, and personal development. Don’t put too much weight on where someone is today. Put the blinders on and focus on your goals and journey.
